Year 7 Blue Planet Project
The project was launched last month with Year 7 students visiting the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port. The students were then tasked with designing Market Drayton’s first Aquarium and preparing a presentation to win the contract for the building. The students worked in groups in a number of lessons to prepare for a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style presentation. The students’ plans, designs and presentations were fantastic! The two winners were ‘Whale Wonder’ and ‘Poseidon's Aquarium’. By studying the project in a variety of lessons, the students were able to include business ideas, a foreign language (information was published in English and French), Art (posters and props), English for the actual presentation and Geographical information about the location and conservation aspects of the project. Both teams also impressed the judges with their consideration of disabled visitors and the access requirements. One of the teams had proposed to have a policy of carers going free, a fact that impressed the judges. It was a fascinating project in which the students worked effectively as a team and enjoyed the culmination of all their hard work in the finals. The two winning teams were awarded with a reading book, chocolates, an aquarium themed key ring and the Blue Planet trophy!
