Student Services
We recognise the importance of continuing pastoral care
for all students whilst accepting that needs change with
growing maturity.
College students are expected to develop the skills of
self-motivation, organisation and time management: the
role of the personal tutor assigned to each student is
to monitor, guide and support.
Whilst there is no formal registration each morning, attendance
at all lessons is recorded and problems with regular attendance
will be addressed by the tutor.
Progress is also monitored through termly assessments
of effort, achievement and meeting targets and deadlines. Tutors
meet with their tutees on a regular basis to discuss progress.
We aim for the relationship between tutor and tutee to
be open and supportive: if a student has problems it is
important for them to have someone to turn to for advice
and guidance. Tutors can also help with liaison with
outside agencies where further help is needed.
Careers advice and guidance on application for Higher
Education is provided to all students. Mary Elkin
(College Coordinator) and her team of tutors have a wealth
of experience that can help students planning their way
forward.
The College Committee is elected annually not only to
organise social events, but also to be the voice of the
student population. They are represented on the
School Council and their views on school and college issues
are important.
