Primary School Links
(Please not that this page is still under development - further details will be added soon)
Grove serves the town of Market Drayton and a wide area of North-East Shropshire and there are ten Primary Schools within our catchment area. The vast majority of students at these schools transfer to Grove but we are also pleased to welcome each year students from several other Primaries, some of them slightly further afield in Shropshire and others just over the Staffordshire border.
Over many years we have developed a detailed programme which seeks to ensure that the transition to Secondary education is a smooth and stress-free process. All students have an initial opportunity to visit Grove for a day during the Summer Term of year 5 to experience the "feel" of a large Comprehensive school. We hold an Open Evening each October for prospective students and their parents and we welcome visitors to the school on any working day by appointment.

There are various opportunities during the year when we invite primary students to visit Grove. In recent years these have included performances, Maths roadshows, Science sessions, and English, art, music and drama workshops. Many of our primary schools also participate in our international focus months.
We hold an annual Joint schools council meeting where representatives from all our partner primary schools are invited to attend a meeting with our school Council to discuss an issue affecting the town and local area. So far, meetings have focused on Sports facilities and environmental issues."
Once the application process is complete we hold a "Move-up Day" for Year 6 students about to transfer to enable them to meet their new teachers, tutor and classmates. This is supported by an information evening for new parents.
Year 5 Visitors
For many students, their Grove education starts in Year 5 or 6 as Grove Language teachers visit Primary schools to start weekly timetabled lessons in either French, Spanish or German throughout the year. This is an important part of our commitment as a specialist Language College.
At the end of the year, Grove Language College organises a languages event specific to the language the students have studied during the year. Last year students had a flamenco dancing experience and this year a session of German story-telling is planned.
