teams of site management/cleaning staff and catering staff.
There are currently 1060 students on roll, including 135
in Grove College - our Sixth Form. The school’s admission
limit each year is 208. Applications to join the
school in Year 7 are currently made through Shropshire
Local Education Authority but all other applications should
be made directly to the school.
Grove enters students for a wide variety of examinations
at different levels. These include GCSE, Key Skills,
NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A2 level.
- In recent years the passrate at Advanced level has
risen, reaching a school record 98% in 2006 which was almost matched in 2007. All students from Grove College seeking Higher Education
places this summer were successful, with nearly all getting their first choice.
- The Key GCSE figure
of students reaching 5+ GCSE passes at Grade C or better
has also climbed steadily and the school is
was very pleased to exceed its target for 2007 with 53% - a further increase on steady improvement seen in the past few years. However,
this headline figure does not show the great successes
of our more able students: we consistently see over 20%
of students achieving over 10 higher passes and our flexible
curriculum allows some to pass 12, 13 or even 14 subjects. In 2007, two students actually achieved 19 passes each!
- Substantial
numbers of students added vocational awards to GCSE passes
this Summer, mainly National Vocational Qualifications
earned in partnership with local businesses. We
also had good success with Key Skills qualifications.
Good attendance is vital to successful education and Grove
works hard with our Education Welfare Officer to eliminate
truancy. In the most recent year, unauthorised absence
was just 1%.
Grove has a policy of Inclusion and the number of permanently exclusions is consistently low.
