African Arts Festival

This year the month of March has been given over to a cross-curricular study of the continent of Africa. On Wednesday 28th March we held our annual Arts Festival, giving students the chance to show off their talents, and this year the event was focused on an African theme.

The Library featured examples of work done in all areas of the curriculum during Africa month, practical activities such as mask making and an opportunity to taste African foods.
The popular Labrary Reading Tent also made a reappearance. Displays, including some excellent work done by a number of our partner Primary Schools, extended from the Library all the way to the Main Hall.
The programme in the Hall included productions of Handa's Surprise and Words in the House of Sound by the Year 7 and Year 10 drama groups respectively, traditional Zulu and Xhosa singing from the school choir and a presentation of Hotel Rwanda - the human response to suffering - by a Year 9 Religious Studies group.
The items were linked by readings with an African theme.
Our guest for the evening was Mrs Sebola, Head of Vukani Primary School in South Africa.
