End of Term Events

We are looking forward to a busy time before we break for the Summer holiday.

The external exam season is almost over and students who have been working so hard in recent weeks can look forward to a well-earned break until the results come in August.

Blue Planet 2009 got under way with year 7 trips  to the Blue Panet Acquarium in Cheshire on Monday 1st & Tuesday 2nd June.  Students are presented with a “Dragon’s Den Scenario” when they are challenged to pitch their ideas for a new aquarium in the local area.  They work in a number of subject areas and are at present working towards their class finals with the final presentation on 23rd and 24th June.

Year 9 students will be undertaking a special challenge with activities ranging over many subjects. It promises to be exciting, but they will have to wait to find out exactly what they have to do!

Also before the end of term, on Tuesday 7th, Wednesday 8th & Thursday 9th July we will be welcoming groups of Year 5 students from our partner primary schools to Grove for a first taster of what life is like in a secondary school.  They will be able to sample a selection of lessons in subjects such as ICT, PE, Design Technology and Languages, as well as enjoying a Grove Catering meal!

From 6th July onwards, all Year 10 students will have two weeks of work experience with local businesses - a very important time when they can experience and start to understand what life in the real world of work is like.

In July 40 year 7 students and 4 staff will once again take part in the annual visit to Le Touquet, a market town on the Opal coast of France. During their three day stay they will visit a local artisan chocolate maker and sample the handmade chocolates.  The students will be able to try out a little French when ordering their ice creams as well as when shopping at the hypermarket.  This visit is always a great success.

Add to that the Sports Day on Friday 10th July and a mountain of preparation for next year, and you can see we have a more than busy time!
