Languages Masterclass
6th Form & Gifted & Talented Year 11 Language Conference 8th March 2010
‘A’ level and GCSE Language students from 7 schools in Shropshire, Telford & Staffordshire descended on The Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton for a languages master-class, on Monday 8th March. 90 students of French, German and Spanish attended the event, organised by the Languages department at Grove School. Linguists spent the morning participating in talks and activities in French, German and Spanish from invited speakers and then, after a fantastic lunch, listened to a talk entitled ‘Why Study Languages?’ by Valeria Karpova-Barber, lecturer in Russian at Keele University. This was followed by an afternoon of language ‘taster’ sessions in Punjabi, Russian and Chinese. As well as enriching and supporting language students with their study of languages, the day aimed to promote language study beyond school. Click here for Modern Languages Page.
A visiting teacher said “Very well organised and pitched at the correct level – thanks very much!”

Quotes from pupils included “It has inspired me further to go into a language profession.”, and “I really enjoyed the ‘Why Study Languages?’ – it was very good and inspirational.”
