Movember
Since its inception in 2003 November has been renamed Movember for all men who support men's health charities by binning the razors and growing facial hair for the whole of the month. Mo Bros (as participants are known) are sponsored for the entire month in the hope they become a walking advertisment for the event. Movember is not only about raising funds for men's health, but also raising awareness. One of its aims is to get people talking about men's health issues, namely two of the most serious, Prostrate and Testicular cancer.
Grove's Business Manager, Mr Ian Morris, saw this as a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the fund raising and equally, raise the awareness for the entire school. Incredibly nearly all of our male staff have pledged to take part and as of 1st November all were clean shaven ready for the month of Movember. Our congratulations must go to Mr Whittaker, Head of Science, who not only agreed to take part but also had his moustache of 38 years shaved in preparation. The event was held at school with Miss Bright from the PE Department playing barber. Students and staff were asked to make donations at the event and these totalled over £100 for this event alone.
We are now into day 3 and the participants are becoming easily recognisable around school! Grove have their own webpage on the official Movember website where donations can be made securely. All monies raised will go to the Movember fund.
