Flying the Flag
Grove has mounted a spectacular welcome to the Principal of Vukani School.
As part of Africa month at Grove, the school is delighted to welcome Ms Ncumisa Sebola, Principal of Vukani Primary School in Cape Town.
Ms Sebola's visit has been sponsored by Grove and the school is very pleased to be able to give her the opportunity to meet staff and students both at Grove and at some of the local Primary schools.
As a very special welcome, all students and staff joined together to make a human South African flag, using colourful t-shirts and card to put the design together.
Grove has now supported Vukani School for over 5 years, raising funds to help buy badly needed educational resources. So far over £13000 has been donated, and this fantastic response by Grove students has led to the school winning the regional Giving Nation Award three years in a row.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication and tireless work of teacher Pat Jackson who has led the work ever since she first visited Cape Town on a Professional Development visit in 2002.
We are very grateful to Richard Parr of Air Atlantic Classic Flight for the aerial photography. Part of the Atlantic group the Classic Flight consists of Classic vintage aircraft from the golden age of British aviation, particularly the 1950’s.The particular aircraft used for the shoot was a 59 year old vintage Percival Prentice, which flew low to make sure of getting the perfect shot.
Richard was impressed with the flag display:
“Pat Jackson contacted us and asked for our help and we were happy to oblige. We were keen to demonstrate our aircraft locally and as we are based as we are in Coventry it was possible to slot the photo shoot into a training sortie that we had already planned. Photographing the Grove students from the air was certainly a more interesting diversion!”
