Students speak out on Sports Facilities
Students from Grove School and 8 primary schools in the Market Drayton area have been completing questionnaires over recent weeks about sport, sports clubs and sports facilities.

On Friday 25th January, some of the sports captains from Grove School were joined by representatives from Market Drayton Junior School and Longlands, Cheswardine, Stoke-on-Tern, Norton-In-Hales, Childs Ercall, Woore and Hinstock Primary Schools at a Market Drayton schools joint council meeting in Grove College.
The meeting was chaired by two Grove College students - John Timmis and Rosie Mankee - and provided an opportunity for the young people of Market Drayton to present the results of their surveys to each other and to representatives of Shropshire Local Authority and West Mercia Police.
The young people discussed the sports they play, what they would like to play, the clubs they are members of and the facilities they use as well as the opportunities and facilities they would like to have available in the town.

Discussion also led to the issue of what stops young people from playing sport in the town. The main barriers to sport were reported as being the poor quality of some facilities, the lack of facilities such as an Astroturf pitch and sports centre.
Another major issue in this rural area is transport. Students also discussed the next step and have agreed to work together to raise the issue at the next Town Council Meeting.
