Football Star Heads for Gay Meadow

Grove student Tom Birch has made an important step along the road to achieve his dream of becoming a professional footballer. The Year 11 boy has received an offer to become a trainee at Shrewsbury Town FC on a two-year programme.

Tom, who is a house captain and a member of the School Council, is very pleased with his opportunity though to confirm his place he has to join the Shrewsbury Town players in June for pre-season training and prove his overall fitness.

He is excited about the opportunity and is thrilled to have got this far, particularly after breaking his leg last year and fearing that he would not recover well enough to play at a high level.

Sports teacher Andy Barber is delighted with the progress of one of his star pupils: "He is a very good lad who has worked hard for this opportunity. He deserves to do well", he said.
