Surviving in Kolkata
On Tuesday 26th Sepember, Grove School went on a journey to India to mark the European Day of Languages - a day on which Europe celebrates the languages of the world.

Working in their Tutor groups, all students joined in a citizenship activity called "The Paper Bag Game".
Many people in Kolkata, including children survive by making paper bags and trading them with shopkeepers for food and spices. Grove students made paper bags from newspapers and the challenge was to make enough bags to barter for the food needed to survive for a day.
Food items were priced as a number of bags in some of the languages of the city - Urdu, Hindi and Bengali.
One student commented:
"It was a tedious task but it gave an insight into the lives of people in parts of the world that we don't understand"
Prizes of Fairtrade goods were given to reward the Tutor Groups in each house that made the most bags. Congratulations to CP, AEP, VF and KB - the Tutor Groups who would have survived - but that was just a day, not a week, or a month or a year .....
Grove Catering also participated by serving a delicious selection of Indian foods at lunchtime!
