Cooking with a Marine

Year 10 GCSE Food Technology groups have started their course in an exciting way, having a demonstration and talk by Colour Sargeant Mike Burton of the Royal Marines.

Mike gave the students an insight into life as a Marine and, with the help of Iola from the Royal Navy gave students practical information on possible careers in the Services.

Mike demonstrated the unlikely dish of curry with a "secret" ingredient - a Bounty bar! He also talked to the students about nutrition, healthy eating and the importance of exercise. All the students then had the practical opportunity to cook the dish themselves.

Mike finally showed students the ration packs used by Marines on active service in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq - something they all found interesting, particularly when they had a taste!
