Grove School students have again wowed staff and judges with their culinary creations in the National Future Chef competition. The first heat of the competition was held in school, students were asked to make one course within a budget of £4.00. The students are judged on a number of skills including creativity & presentation, menu balance, composition, taste & flavour and workmanship. Our school winner was Lizzie Hope, who’s imaginative combination and confidence in the kitchen impressed judges.
As winner of the school round Lizzie progressed to the second round Local finals. This competition was held at Stoke-on-Trent College in an industrial kitchen for a place in the Regional Finals. The task was to prepare a two course meal for two people for a budget of £6.00. Lizzie continued to impress with her menu of Creamy herb chicken wrapped in Parma ham with rosemary roasted potatoes, garlic butter, green beans and seasonal veg. Dessert was a filo meringue tart with fruit collis. Food Technology teacher Miss Daragheh who accompanied Lizzie to the event said “she did exceptionally well, kept her cool and showed some great skills that the judges were pleased with.”
Following her excellent performance we are delighted to announce that Lizzie made it through to the Regional Finals for the Competition, due to be held in January at University College Birmingham. We would like to congratulate Lizzie, and wish her luck for the next round.
