Record GCSE results

Grove students' exam success continues!  Following last week's excellent A level results, GCSE students have achieved the best results ever for Grove.

60% of Year 11 students achieved five or more passes at Grade C or better - nearly 5% better than the previous best and exceeding the school's target.  With some vocational qualifications still to be received, the final figure could be even higher, and headteacher Jane Radbourne expressed her satisfaction:

"The results confirm the real progress being made at Grove. Not only is the headline figure of 60% achieving five or more Grades A* - C the best ever for Grove by a considerable margin but there have been excellent results across the board.  Twelve students achieved 8 or more passes at A* and A and I am delighted that we had a 100% passrate at GCSE, so no student has left Grove without at least one qualification.  It is so pleasing to see the students' excitement and pleasure at their success and an amazing feeling, as that's what we work hard for all year.  I'd like to thank students and staff for the tremendous hard work that has gone into getting these results, and the parents for their support"

There were many outstanding individual performances, with 37% of students managing 10 or more high grade passes.  These included Alice Ratherham (11 passes, all at A*or A), Emily Orgill (12 passes, all at A* or A), Jack Taylor (12 passes, 11 at A* or A), Rebecca Talbott (12 passes, 10 at A* or A), Rhys Williams (11, 10), Sophie Jones (11, 8), Liz Hardy (13, 11), Connor Clayton (11, 9), Jessica Munro (12, 8), Piotr Bednorz (12, 6), Lauren Healy (13, 12), Katie Bentley (11, 9), Philip Littlehales (12, 8), Ben Jordan (13, 7), Millie Thomas (11, 5), Charlotte Bennion (11, 5), Emma Clowes (11, 6) and George Austin (14, 5).

The results do not only show steady and consistent improvement in GCSE.  Grove prides itself on the diversity and flexibility of its curriculum (as recognised by OFSTED) and students have also had great success in a wide range of alternative and vocational qualifications.

Overall, Jane Radbourne considered the school's results at all levels this year to be pleasing and a clear indicator that the hard work being put in by students and staff to improve reults is paying dividends.
