Good Citizen Award
We were thrilled to receive the news that Jordan Ashley, 16 years of age of Grove school has won runner-up in the national 2009 Randstad Education ‘Good Citizen Award.’ The student received a certificate from Colin Bamford in a house assembly in recognition of his outstanding voluntary work in the local community and at school.
Randstad Education invites schools to nominate those students with a social conscious who have made an extra contribution over the year. Competitions are held in four regions and approximately 2,000 schools will have been involved nationally.
The Year 11 student works tirelessly within school as House Captain, a member of the School Council and provides lighting and sound for school productions. He has secured funding of £700 in the form of a community grant from Muller towards lighting for the school which was presented at a special lunch in the conference rooms and a grant from the PTA and from school towards a big digital upgrade of school lighting. Outside of school he works for Festival Drayton, helps at Market Drayton Homework Club in Market Drayton library 3 times a week helping with homework and their website. He has a seat on Shropshire County Scout Council and the Tern Valley District Executive Committee. He also works for the local amateur dramatic society doing lighting and general stage work and maintains their website.
