Year 11 Languages Masterclass
Over 90 year 11 students of French, German and Spanish from 15 schools in Shropshire and Staffordshire attended a Languages Masterclass at the Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton on Thursday 6th November 2006.

The event was organised by Grove’s Language College as an enrichment session in Language Learning and to offer an insight into the benefits of continuing to learn a language post 16. Students benefited from talks about French Slang, Corsica, the German School System, Spanish Football and Music as well as talking part in conversation sessions helping students to conduct for and against discussions and encouraging them to use their language skills creatively.

Speakers from Liverpool and Keele Universities and the Black Country Pathfinder project joined teachers from Grove School and Blessed Robert Johnson School in delivering the varied programme and PGCE students from Keele University also organised some sessions.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon’s taster sessions of Chinese, Italian and Spanish and feedback was very positive. One teacher commented that it was “a most enjoyable day” and another that “the day was excellent“ and “certainly gave a very positive attitude towards languages”. One student described the day as “interesting and really useful” and another as “fantastique”.
