School Council Meet MP
Friday 13th may be an unlucky date in some people’s diaries, but it was good luck for the members of the School Council as they had a chance of a private meeting with Owen Paterson, our MP.

Meeting as usual in the Town Council Chamber, they first had governor Barry Pitt thanking them for their involvement in last week’s headship appointment followed by a full hour and a quarter with Mr.Paterson.
The purpose of the meeting was to explore the challenges of representing people’s views in parliament and our students learned of the key difference between being a delegate, sent to voice specific views on behalf of people, and a representative who was elected to exercise his judgment on behalf of the interests of the people of North Shropshire. There was plenty of time for questions about the life of an MP and a shadow minister, and the meeting finished with the school council being invited back to the House of Commons at a date to be agreed around Easter.
