Grove RE Students Visit Woodcroft
On Tuesday 5th December a group of fourteen Year 10 students from Grove School visited elderly residents at Woodcroft Care Home as part of their GCSE studies.
The module “Care of the Elderly” encourages students to appreciate the needs of elderly people and the difficulties they face and head of RE, Beryl Feeley was delighted to have an invitation for some of her students to visit Woodcroft to meet residents and talk to them.
Miss Feeley said that she was very pleased to have been invited to visit Woodcroft. As well as being an excellent opportunity for students to hear directly from the elderly about their needs and worries, she hoped it be another regular link between Grove and Woodcroft
But the students were not only talking. They also took presents of cakes that they baked themselves in school and sang Christmas carols.
The group appreciated the chance to meet with older people and make links. One of the students said:
“I think a lot of older people are very intimidated by some teenagers and are worried by their behaviour which can be frightening. I wanted to be able to tell them that we are not like that – we respect the elderly and want to show we care”
The visit was organised by Beryl Feeley and Sarah Robinson, Associate Teacher of RE.
