The Rotary Young Chef Competition

Once again at Grove students were invited to compete in the Rotary Young Chef of the Year Competition. The two school heats including KS3 for students from Years 7 - 9 and KS4 for students from years 10 and 11 were held during the past week.

All students were asked to prepare a main meal from scratch within an hour, for a set budget. Miss Daragheh, Food Technology Teacher and organiser of the event said, "All students who competed this year produced food to an exceptionally high standard, the judges deliberated for well over an hour."

KS3 School heat

A very tough decision for the judges to choose from the wonderful array of dishes .........................................

The overall winner of the KS3 event was Phoebe Barratt, Year 7.  Phoebe cooked Salmon fillet in a dill sauce with potato shells, served with a mixed salad, the judges said her salmon was "perfectly cooked and that the dish had a lovely flavour."  Miss Daragheh said, "Phoebe was very organised and presented a dish which delivered on appearance, flavour and texture, it's a great achievement for Phoebe - she has shown a lot of potential and she's still only in year 7.  We have some budding young chefs coming though the school, which is great to see!"

KS4 School heat

Our KS4 students were asked to prepare a main course and dessert for two people, within the budget of £8.00. Again the standard of the food was exceptional.

Food glorious food !

The winner of the KS4 heat was Evie Nagington

Evie cooked ‘Dover Sole a la Meuniere, served with creamy mash and slow roasted vine tomatoes’. For dessert, Evie served a tiramisu which scored a 10/10 with our judges!

Miss Daragheh said, "Evie cooked her fish perfectly and paid attention to the overall presentation of her dish. It also delivered on taste and flavour."

Both Phoebe and Evie will now compete at the District Final on February 15th, we wish them both the best of luck and will updating the site with the latest news once we have the results.
