Business Studies
The Business Studies department is led by Mr S Stoneley
who is also Assistant Head and Vocational Director. Other members of the department are Mr C McStay (Head of South House) and Mr T Kinnersley, who also teaches ICT
The department offers a GCSE course in Key Stage 4. This is both popular
and successful.
At Grove College Business Studies options are available at both Advanced and
GNVQ (Intermediate) levels. The GNVQ is an intensive 1-year course with
a final qualification equivalent to 4 GCSE Grade C passes. It can be a worthwhile
qualification in its own right or a useful stepping-stone towards Advanced level
studies.
In all its courses, the business Studies department aims to promote direct experience
and observation of the working world and the co-operation and inter-dependence
which participation in society entails and to develop knowledge and understanding
of the terminology, features, principles, theories, concepts, skills and dynamics
relevant to business activity. Links with the community and the world of
work through placements, visits, assignments and data collection exercises are
important..
The department has good facilities and most teaching is mainly carried out in
networked ICT suites with audio-visual equipment.
Grove School also offers a wide range of vocational options
in partnership with local businesses and colleges. These
are described in the Vocational
Education section.
