In 2004-05….
Yet again East House had a successful year!
Sports Day 2005 was particularly memorable. This
is always a wonderful opportunity for the House system
to shine and once again it brought out the very best not
only in our competitors but also our supporters. We
are very fortunate to have some excellent sportsmen and
sportswomen in our House and their performances were a
testimony to their determination to win. The atmosphere
was electric with the whole House cheering each competitor
with equal gusto. Suffice to say we clinched yet
another victory! This meant that we had won not just
the Arts Festival and Sports day, but also the House League
Cup for the second year running.
Ben and Stacy represented us admirably on the School Council
and we continue to develop the role of the House and Vice-Captains. Nominations
for these posts come from the Tutors and it is considered
a prestigious accolade to be nominated. I have been
impressed with the way in which pupils have conducted themselves
during the House elections and with the considered and
thoughtful way in which they use their votes. This
can only serve to strengthen the House System.
The Design for the Record Book Competition was another
resounding success attracting over a hundred entries. The
winner was Kerry McCloughlin. The Annual Arts
festival was once again a showcase for our very talented
pupils. East House did not disappoint and came equal
second this year (well – we can’t win
all the time).
I feel that I must give a special mention to Michelle
Peck who stepped in at the (very) last minute to produce
an excellent piece of Art Work. She also represented
us in the reading category , adopting a convincing accent
with which to read an extract from ‘Cider With Rosie.’ Erika
Bratton sang a familiar modern classic – ‘Angels,’ gamely
overcoming a technical hitch at the start of her performance. Our
Drama group consisted of Ben Edwards, Emily Haylock, Harriet
Johns, Jonathan Harrison and Jack Taylor. They
performed a spirited version of the set text with humour
and panache. Jonathan Harrison represented us in
the instrumental category, impressing everybody with his
mastery of the drum kit.
