Facilities
The school is a Community School, which means that it
is maintained by Shropshire County Council. In January
2005 there were 1048 students on roll, including 140
at Grove College, with nearly 80 teaching staff and a
wide range of support staff.
The Grove has excellent facilities. There is a carefully
managed programme of buildings maintenance and improvement
and all areas are decorated on a regular basis.
All subjects have a suite of rooms. In addition there
is a hall with stage, gymnasium, sports hall and drama
studio. Particular facilities include ten science laboratories,
most of which have recently been refurbished with state-of-the-art
teaching resources including interactive whiteboards
and computers, five technology workshops/design bases,
also refurbished to a high standard, a home economics
suite with four rooms and a computer suite shared with
design technology, an open plan art and pottery area,
a music suite with teaching, instrumental tuition and
practice rooms, five information technology rooms and
an excellent library and resource centre. ICT access
for students is very good,
with over 250 networked computers
available throughout the school and college.
The Language College building has nine teaching rooms
with interactive whiteboards, a video conferencing facility
and an ICT suite with specialist software dedicated to
language teaching.
For sports, there is a good range of sports pitches
and hard courts. The school has its own field centre
in the Lake District (The Birks) purchased by the P.T.A.,
at a cost of £40,000, in 1985.
