Governors
We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor. If you have a child at Grove and would be interested in joining the Governing Body, please contact Geoff Soul, Clerk to the Governors at the school
Grove is a Community School and has a Governing Body comprising four Local Authority Governors who are directly appointed, seven Parent Governors and four Staff Governors who are elected for four-year terms by parents and staff respectively and five Community Governors who are directly appointed by the Governing Body themselves.
The full Governing Body usually meets four times a year, but most of its business is conducted through committees. The main committees are Curriculum, Finance, Marketing, Personnel and Premises& Health and Safety and these meet at least termly. Their principal functions are to receive reports on relevant areas of school activity, monitor and review policies, agree the budget and prioritise expenditure, approve the staffing and curriculum orgainisation for the school, set targets and monitor progress. However, this list is far from exhaustive. All committee recommendations have to be approved by the full Governors.
In addition there are statutory committees that meet only as required to consider matters such as disciplinary issues with both students and staff and complaints.
Governors have many statutory functions but their principal role is frequently seen as that of a "critical friend", supporting, monitoring and auditing. There are links between individual Governors and subject areas that serve to ensure that Governors are well-informed ans aware of developments, successes and problems that need to be addressed.
Any parent interested in becoming a Governor can nominate themselves when a vacancy arises: all parents will be notified when this happens. Those interested in putting their name forward for co-option as a Community Governor can do so by contacting either Peter Ingham (Chair of Governors) or Geoff Soul (Clerk to the Governors).
