The History Department
The members of the history teaching staff are Mr P Herring, who is Subject Leader, and Mr S Charnley.
All students study History throughout Years 7 to 9. GCSE
History is a popular option in Years 10 and 11. The
syllabus currently in use is the Schools History Project
and students specifically study the American West, The
History of Medicine and Northern Ireland.
Advanced level History is also available as an option
in Grove College.
The department emphasizes the importance of giving pupils
the experience of learning from historical sites and
museums. Hence visits are regularly organized, with a
typical year’s programme being:
- Year 7 - Stokesay and Ludlow Castles
- Year 8 - Rowley's House Museum & Shrewsbury
- Year 9 - Black Country Museum
- Year 10 - Shugborough Hall
- Year 11 - Thackeray Medical Museum, Leeds
