Key Stage 4
Grove offers an outstanding choice of courses in Years
10 and 11. All students follow the core of English (Language
and Literature), Maths, Science, a Modern Foreign Language,
PE, Personal Social and Health Education, ICT and Religious
Studies.
All students can then choose an option course from a long list of possibilities, including the humanities, technology (including ICT at greater depth), arts and an additional language.
Beyond this, students can choose from two very different
sets of options:
The General route allows an additional choice of two subjects
- mostly GCSE but some other courses, including Motor Vehicle
Studies taught at a college through a partnership and NVQ
studies undertaken with local businesses, with students
spending time at the place of work one afternoon a week.
The Vocational route involves students in either spending
a whole day each week with a local employer working towards
an NVQ qualification or taking a course in a subject such
as engineering or land studies at a local college, also
for one day a week.
Through this imaginative offer we aim to allow all students
to find a programme of study in Key Stage 4 that will interest
and motivate them, whilst allowing the flexibility to,
for example, achieve GCSE passes alongside an NVQ qualification.
