Pastoral Care
At Grove it is a fundamental principal that every child
is important and a central aim is for all students to reach
their full potential. For this to happen, not only
are quality teaching and learning essential, but each child
needs to feel safe, secure and supported.
Our pastoral system exists for these key reasons:
- To monitor students' progress and help them to be actively
involved in their own learning by setting targets and
planning how they can best improve
- To ensure that each
student has, in their tutor, an adult that they can turn
to if they have problems
- To provide, through the House
system, opportunities for students to be involved in
a full range of school activities, including competition
- To give a structure in which good behaviour and successes
can be rewarded and negative issues such as poor behaviour
or attitude to work, problems with attendance or punctuality
or lack of progress can be addressed.
Our last OFSTED inspection described Grove as a caring
and safe environment and it is very important to us that
this is maintained so that every student can come to school
without worries and be able to concentrate on learning. Aspects
of our curriculum place emphasis on the development of individuals as
responsible members of society and independent learners.
We make every effort through our own pastoral system to
help students facing difficulties and have an excellent
mentoring system ConneX.
When necessary, we can call on the help of outside agencies
with whom we have a very positive relationship. We
have a well-established Anti-Bullying
Policy.
We have a fully-qualified nurse - Mrs Kathy Smale - who
is available to deal with any medical problems that may
arise.

The House system
The school is organized
in four Houses for pastoral care, registration, assemblies,
competitions and other aspects of school life. Within
each House a team of tutors works to support, guide and
monitor students.
Student Support in Grove College
Students who enter Grove College are
supported by a separate team of tutors under the guidance
of the College Coordinator. Much
greater emphasis is placed on self-responsibility at this
stage of a student’s career.
Behaviour code
The school aims to provide
a caring and secure environment in which students can be
helped to develop both socially and academically. Our
expectations of students are built around the one simple
rule that everyone will act with courtesy and consideration
to others at all times and our Behaviour Code is designed
to support this.
Uniform
Grove School has a comfortable but smart uniform and we
expect that it will be worn by all students.
Grove Connex
ConneX is the student mentoring scheme operating within
the school. This highly successful and innovative scheme
seeks to serve the specific needs of individual students.
