The Physical Education Department
The school and college have excellent facilities for both
indoor and outdoor activities, with large playing fields,
a sports hall and a gymnasium. We offer a wide range
of activities during lessons and after school.
The Physical Education curriculum is designed to offer
experience in as many activities as possible, sometimes
in single-sex groups and sometimes in mixed groups. These
include soccer, rugby, cricket, hockey, volleyball, basketball,
cross-country running, tennis, netball, badminton, table
tennis, gymnastics, trampolining, athletics and health-related
fitness activities.
Clearly not every activity can be available to every year
group. In Key Stage 3 students will follow a programme
in line with the National Curriculum gaining experience
of a range of team sports as well as individual activities. In
Key Stage 4 students are offered more choice and can select
from a range of activities and games each half term.
In Grove College students also have the option of A level PE or the OCR course in Sports Studies.
There are clubs in all the major sports and school teams
are selected from those who attend practices regularly
to compete with other schools and enter county competitions.
The large department is led by Mr A Barber and Miss L Murphy is Second in Department. Also teaching PE are Miss J Broughton, Mrs R Whittaker, Mr J Granger and Mr D Littleford. Mrs V Lightfoot is currenly on maternity leave.
