The Personal Social and
Health Education Department

The Personal, Social and Health Education department is a team of two teachers who deliver a wide programme of education throughout Years 7 to 11. Jayne Williams is Head of Department and Citizenship Education Co-ordinator. Helen Fisher, who is Head of North House, also teaches PSHE and has an important role in liaison with local businesses.
During Key Stage 3 students are helped to develop skills through the competences of Citizenships, Learning, Managing Information Relating to People and Managing Situations (CLIPS). In Key Stage 4 students develop these skills through independent learning and the use of key skills.
Careers education forms an important part of PSHE. Students are given access to information that they need to make informed choices about continuing in education and their career choices. Guidance is given to help students make informed choices for Key Stage 4 and for choosing their best progression route Post 16. All students are given the opportunity to complete 2 weeks Work Experience at the end of Year 10. Other Enterprise and Work Related Projects take place during Key Stage 4.
Health Education includes appropriate Sex Relationship Education (SRE). Details are available on request.
Citizenship Education is taught through subjects using a cross-curricular programme and encouraged through a wide range of activities.
Tutors, Subject Leaders and the Citizenship Co-ordinator all have their role to play in enhancing students understanding of social and political issues which affect our young people in their own and the wider community.
