Grove School

Grove provides education for students throughout the 11-19 age range.  We hope that this section of our website will be useful for those principally interested in what we offer for 11-16 year olds – the compulsory years.

Grove School is comprehensive in the true sense of the word, admitting each year up to 200 students of all abilities and backgrounds from the many partner Primary Schools in the area.

Students in Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9) have access to the full National Curriculum with an additional emphasis on modern languages in keeping with our status as a specialist Language College. In Year 7, students are taught  in sets for English, Maths and Modern Language and in mixed-ability groups for other subjects, but from Year 8 onwards setting according to ability and the speed with which progress can be made is increasingly used. We offer strong support for those needing Learning Support. We place importance of the development of young people as individuals and have adopted the Opening Minds curriculum.  This aims to give students the skills they need for learning and living in a community and it operates alongside the National Curriculum.

We are fortunate to be fully staffed with well-qualified teachers working almost exclusively only in their own subject specialisms. Our buildings are modern and well-maintained with excellent facilities that we are constantly seeking to improve.

Our Key Stage 4 programme is recognised as being exceptionally innovative and flexible, allowing students to follow traditional courses based on a wide selection of GCSE subjects or a vocational route in partnership with local businesses and colleges whilst still being an integrated part of the school for most subjects.  Students can even mix vocational and the more traditionally “academic” studies.

Throughout their studies students of all ages are guided and encouraged through our strong pastoral care and support systems.

The Aims of Grove School are focused on recognising every child as important and doing all we can to help them reach their full potential.  Click on the link to see more detail.
