The Science Department
The
Science Department is the largest in the school with 9
teachers. All students study Science for 4 periods
a week throughout Years 7 to 9 and for five periods a week in Years 10 and
11 taught in separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics
lessons. In Year 10 a modular core science course is followed, then in Year 11 students study Additional Science or Additional Applied Science. An option is also available at Key Stage 4 for students to study for three separate Science GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Advanced level Biology, Chemistry, Physics
and Environmental Science are all available at Grove
College. All students will aim to achieve at least 2 GCSE grades for science.
The members of the Science teaching staff are:
Full-time: Mr P Whittaker (Subject Leader), Mr J A Hartley
(Head of Biology), Dr S Gould (Head of Chemistry),
Mr D Marsh (Head of Physics), Mr A Richards, Mrs L Green, Mr M Brereton and Miss K Holdstock. Mr G Buckley also works part-time in the Science department.
In recent years a huge investment in science teaching facilities
has seen most laboratories completely refurbished with
state-of-the-art equipment and teaching aids. Nearly
all labs have interactive whiteboards and access to networked
computers.
