Technology
Grove
School has a large and well-equipped technology department,
with many rooms having been refurbished in recent years
to a very high standard. There are two graphics rooms,
including one with networked computers for CAD, three workshops
for designing and making producers in wood, plastic and
metal, two dedicated Food Technology rooms, one Textiles
room and a final room equipped for both food and textiles
work.
There are 7 members of staff in the department. Mr Malcolm
Collier is subject leader. Also working with him in the
specialist areas of Resistant Materials and Graphics are
Mr David Wheeler, Mr Tony Middleton and Mr Gordon Shenton. Food and Textiles
are taught by Mrs Lynda Warner (who is subject leader for
these), Miss Karen Blount and Mrs Gill Grainger. Finally,
Miss Jill Heathcock teaches in all subject areas.
During Key Stage 3 all students spend two hours each week studying
technology (with additional time for Information and Communication
Technology). Over the course of three years everyone will
spend time on the different study areas of Food Technology,
Textiles, Graphic Design and Resistant Materials developing
their skills in designing and making.
In Years 10 and 11, all students study technology to GCSE
standard, with the option of specialising in Food, Textiles,
Resistant Materials, Graphics or ICT. All courses place
a large emphasis on practical coursework.
Teachers in the department also provide an additional
GCSE option of Child Development.
Students at Grove College have two advanced level courses
available - Design and Advanced Vocational Health and Social
Care.
