Technology
Grove
School has a large and well-equipped technology department,
with many rooms having been refurbished in recent years
to a very high standard. There are two graphics rooms
with networked computers for CAD, three workshops
for designing and making products in wood, plastic and
metal, two dedicated Food Technology rooms and two rooms equipped for both food and textiles
work.
There are 6 members of staff in the department. In the
specialist areas of Resistant Materials and Graphics are
Mr David Wheeler, Mrs Allison Fellows and Mr Gordon Shenton. Food and Textiles
are taught by Mrs Rhona Roberts and Miss Alison Gilling. Mrs Karen Harrison-Blount is currently on maternity leave. Finally,
Mrs Jill Heathcock teaches in all subject areas.
During Key Stage 3 all students spend two lessons each week studying
technology (with additional time for Information and Communication
Technology). Over the course of three years everyone will
spend time on the different study areas of Food Technology,
Textiles, Graphic Design and Resistant Materials developing
their skills in designing and making.
In Years 10 and 11, all students are able to study technology to GCSE
standard, with the option of specialising in Food, Textiles,
Resistant Materials, Graphics, Electronics or ICT. All courses place
a large emphasis on practical coursework.
Students at Grove College have the advanced level course of
Product Design available.
