Vocational Studies

Grove School offers students exceptional opportunities to combine vocational studies with more traditional school work.
The provision in this area has been recognised nationally as a model of good practice and has featured both in the national press and on Teachers' TV.

Students in Key Stage 4 can choose to complement their school-based studies with a range of options:
- NVQ studies – One day or half a day per week training with a local business and working towards an NVQ qualification (level 1 or 2). A range of areas is currently available - Hairdressing, Horse Management, Business Administration, Game keeping, Agriculture, Motor Vehicle Maintenance.
- Foundation Certificate in Motor Vehicle Studies - one day each week using facilities at Walford & North Shropshire College.
- Construction skills – a school based programme with block placement at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology's construction department for additional skills development.
- Animal Care & Small Animal Care courses at level 1 & level 2 at Walford & North Shropshire College
- Level 2 Hairdressing VRQ at County Training’s Hair Salon in Whitchurch.
- Horse Care level 1 at Walford & North Shropshire College
- An entry level qualification in Land Studies at Walford & North Shropshire College.
Students also have an opportunity to follow a New Diploma qualification which offers an imaginative, high quality, innovative blend of general education and applied learning.

- Hospitality & Catering
- Information Technology
- Sport & Leisure (From September 2010)
Local businesses also make a major contribution to teaching in other subject area. Notable examples are:
- Classroom Assistant Project - students have gained experience at Market Drayton Infant School and Longlands School
- Students received business mentoring from representatives of local firms.
- Short courses in First Aid and Food Hygiene for students following GCSE options in Child Development and Food Technology. Year 12 and 13 students following Health and Social Care have also followed the short courses.
